Woman Dies After Car Crashes Into Schuylkill River

The 77-year-old woman who crashed into the river Tuesday morning in Bala Cynwyd has died, Lower Merion Township officials said.

BALA CYNWYD, PA — The woman involved in a car crash into the Schuylkill River Tuesday morning in Bala Cynwyd has died, Lower Merion Township authorities Tuesday afternoon.

First responders were called to 601 Righters Ferry Road at about 9:08 a.m. for a report of a car in the river. Two Lower Merion Police officers and a firefighter from the Union Fire Company were the first to arrive.

Those three pulled a 77-year-old woman from the car.

The woman was taken to Lankenau Medical Center by Narberth Ambulance crews. She was listed in critical condition before dying later in the day, officials said.

The officers and firefighter were also taken to Lankenau evaluation. They were released and doing well, officials said.

There is no word yet on what caused the crash.
