Cops: Man With $1,600 Flees Chili's Bill

Three companions eluded officers, police said.

A Bala Cynwyd patron is charged with running out on a $128.78 check May 23 while carrying about $1,600 in cash, police said.

That evening, a group of four men walked out of the City Avenue restaurant without paying, police said. Officers responded to a report of a disturbance, and upon arriving they saw a Mercury Grand Marquis with tinted windows leaving the parking lot.

A Chili’s employee pointed at the car, yelling that its occupants had left without paying the bill, police said.

Police followed the car to Belmont Avenue near Wynnefield Avenue, at which point the car had to stop for traffic. Police said that three males then jumped out of the car and ran, ditching the driver, Michael Clemons, 21, of Philadelphia.

Clemons was arrested, taken back to headquarters and charged with theft of services. He was released on $3,000 bail.
