New Horizons Senior Center's Music Week Returns!

August 2 to August 6. Join New Horizons for a variety of fun and engaging musical programs on Zoom throughout the week.

All Adults 55 and Over are invited to log into Zoom from August 2 to August 6, and join New Horizons Senior Center for a fun and engaging week of musically themed programs. Each morning, at 10:30 AM, a different speaker will offer a unique perspective on a particular musician or historical musical event. In the afternoons, at 1:00 PM, four different soloists (and one special duo) will present a variety of musical pieces in their own unique style. From Jazz to Pop, Rock to Folk Music, Celtic to Latin, and much more, this eclectic week of American and International classics has something for everyone!

MONDAY, AUGUST 2

10:30 AM -- "How I Wound Up Backstage at 'Live Aid' for 3 Days": Presentation by Gerry Hebert: Join New Horizons Tech Whiz Gerry Hebert and learn about his experiences as a DJ at the "Live Aid" Concert in Philly in 1985. Hear stories of his exploits backstage...and how Gerry met such famous individuals as Neil Young, Eric Clapton, and the Led Zeppelin.

1:00 PM -- Jazz Performance with Stanley Fink: Stan will play Classic Jazz standards on his saxophone. A good time will be had by all!

TUESDAY, AUGUST 3

10:30 AM -- "Bobby Darin" with Bob Bond, Historian: Hear Bob discuss the colorful life, career, and music of popular singer and songwriter Bobby Darin, who performed various Jazz, Pop, Rock, and Folk music.

1:00 PM -- Concert and Conversation with Elissa Berardi, Recorder Player: New Horizons' Executive Director will share videos and recordings of her performances as a Recorder Soloist with Philomel Baroque. She will also give a live interactive performance demo.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 4

10:30 AM -- "Poetry and Music" with New Horizons' Creative Writing Class: Enjoy original poetry inspired by favorite music pieces of the members of New Horizons' Creative Writing Class. Something for everyone – Classic, Jazz, Pop, Folk Music, and More!

1:00 PM -- Live Zoom Concert with Phyllis Chapell, Vocalist and Guitarist: Listen in as Phyllis Chapell returns to New Horizons Virtual Center to perform various American and International music that has been popular through the ages.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 5

10:30 AM -- "Exploring Social Justice through Music": Presentation by Gregory Williams, Historian: Gregory presents a variety of music that has influenced social issues through the ages, including war and peace, protests, civil rights, and human rights.

1:00 PM -- Classic Rock Music Performance with Chris Holt, Guitarist: Chris is a Senior Real Estate Specialist and Community Educator for the Alzheimer's Association, as well as being a talented Guitarist. He will play guitar and sing Classic Rock such as Bruce Springsteen, the Beatles, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, and Grateful Dead.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 6

10:30 AM -- "Joni Mitchell": Presentation by Stanley Fink: All Seniors are invited to join New Horizons' Music Appreciation Leader Stan Fink for a discussion of singer and songwriter Joni Mitchell. Stan will show music videos and talk about this famous singer's life and career.

1:00 PM -- Silver Keys Duo: Flute and Piano with Roberta Goren and Suzanne Weaver: Come enjoy a live zoom concert put on by a very talented duo. Roberta and Suzanne will perform a number of popular musical periods and styles, including Jazz, Folk, Celtic, and Latin.
