Pregnant Woman Killed In Main Line Crash Identified

Lower Merion authorities have identified the pregnant woman who died along with her unborn child in a late December Bala Cynwyd crash.

BALA CYNWYD, PA — While the investigation into a fatal Bala Cynwyd crash is still underway, authorities in Lower Merion Township have identified the 36-year-old pregnant woman who was killed.

Lower Merion Police said Latoya M. Handy-Hunter, 36, of West Philadelphia, is the woman who died in the Dec. 30 crash.

Handy-Hunter and her unborn child died in the crash. Four other pedestrians were also hurt in the crash, police said. Their conditions are still unknown.

The crash occurred at about 2:47 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30 on West Rock Hill Road near the intersection of Bryn Mawr Avenue in Bala Cynwyd.

Police said the vehicle that struck the five pedestrians also struck two vehicles.

After the crash, police said a physical altercation ensued, but authorities did not provide further detail on the altercation.

The identities of the driver and other pedestrians have not been released.

Authorities said an investigation into the crash by the Lower Merion Township Police Traffic Safety Unit and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office is still ongoing.

Extensive interviews, as well as mechanical and forensic testing, are being conducted as part of the investigation.

There still is no word on potential charges coming in connection with the crash.
