Track & Field
The Holy Family University men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams competed at the University of Pennsylvania Invitational at Franklin Field Saturday, April 2.

The relay teams for Holy Family highlighted the afternoon as the men’s 4x800-meter relay team and the women’s 4x400-meter relay team each recorded third place finishes. On the men’s side, Holy Family finished the event in a time of 8:07.96. Penn’s ‘B’ team won the event and was followed by its ‘A’ team.
For the women, Holy Family finished in a time of 3:58.72 in the relay for a third place showing. The Tigers followed the relay team from Howard (3:54.93) who finished second and the quartet from Penn that won the event in a time of 3:58.72.

Holy Family will compete next on Saturday, April 9 at the University of Delaware Open.
Student Athletes
Holy Family University had five student-athletes named to the 2010-11 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Winter All-Academic team as announced by the conference office. A total of 33 student-athletes among the 14 conference institutions have earned a spot on the team this year.
Senior women’s basketball All-American Catherine Carr (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) highlighted the list of CACC student-athletes recognized as she was one of seven honorees earning a spot on the All-Academic team for a third straight year.
Men’s basketball junior guard Ben Badeen is making his second straight All-Academic team along with women’s basketball junior guard Lauren Peters (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) and senior forward Lindsey Tennett.
Also appearing on this year’s list from the women’s basketball team is sophomore forward Kelly Brady who is making the All-Academic team for the first time.
Women’s Lacrosse
Senior Jennifer James (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) scored the game’s final two goals to lift the Holy Family University women’s lacrosse team to a 16-15 victory over Wilmington University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road contest Wednesday, March 30.
With the victory, Holy Family improves to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the CACC. In the process, the Tigers snapped their three-game losing streak. Wilmington is now 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the CACC.
James scored a game-high six goals, including four in the first half, to lead the Holy Family offense. Junior Lauren Greco (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) tallied three goals to go along with three draw controls and two caused turnovers. Fellow classmate Samantha Cornely (Washington Twp., N.J./Camden Catholic) contributed two goals, while also controlling two draw controls and causing one turnover.
Junior goalkeeper Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) tallied seven saves in net for the Tigers, while freshman Corinne Dries made 12 stops for the Wildcats.
Women’s Tennis
The Holy Family University women’s tennis team defeated Division-I La Salle University, 4-3, in a non-conference match at the Torresdale-Frankford Country Club Tuesday March 29.
Holy Family is now 11-3 overall after the victory, while La Salle drops to 4-9 overall on the year.
Sophomores Juliana Victoria (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Unidad Educativa Nuevo Mundo) and Jin Querubin (Mississauga, Ontario/St. Joseph Secondary) along with junior Linda Piecyk (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert’s) all picked up single match victories to lead the Tigers.
Women’s Softball
The Holy Family University softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with Georgian Court University at GCU Field Tuesday afternoon. Holy Family won game one by the score of 5-3, while Georgian Court took the nightcap with a 9-1 victory.
Holy Family is now 4-14 overall and 1-1 in the CACC, while Georgian Court is now 9-15 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
In game one, freshman Rachael Alligood (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) made her first career start and in the process picked up her first career win after pitching a complete game limiting Georgian Court to only three runs. Alligood struck out three batters and surrendered six hits in her outing.
In game two, Georgian Court scored seven runs in the first two innings as the Lions defeated Holy Family, 9-1, in a shortened five-inning affair. Georgian Court picked up three runs in the first frame as Hull and senior Courtney Cuevas highlighted the inning with a pair of run scoring doubles.
