Main Line Health Suspends Elective Procedures As COVID Surges

MAIN LINE, PA — Main Line Health is suspending elective surgeries as more and more coronavirus cases take up room in its various facilities, according to reports.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Main Line Health is pausing all elective procedures for two weeks due to a surge in coronavirus cases.

Main Line Health's Chief Medical Officer Jonathan Stallkamp told the Inquirer that about 70 percent of coronavirus patients in the system are unvaccinated.

The suspension of elective procedures is to make sure coronavirus patients have room in its facilities and so staff is available to take care of those patients, Action News reports.

While elective procedures are paused, emergency surgeries and procedures will go on as planned, according to Fox 29.

The inquirer reports patients being treated for coronavirus at Main Line Health facilities are nearing the highest ever, which was just shy of 300 cases in December 2020.

Main Line Health's facilities include Bryn Mawr Hospital, Lankenau Medical Center, Hospital, Paoli Hospital, Riddle Hospital, and several other locations in Broomall, Malvern, King of Prussia, and more.
