Chestnut Hill On Ice 2020: What You Need To Know

Don't miss ice sculpture carving, an ice bar, an iceless skating rink (yes you read that right), hot chocolate, wine tasting, and more.

CHESTNUT HILL, PHILADELPHIA — It's almost time for the annual Chestnut Hill on Ice winter festival.

The festival will take place Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1 along Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill.

Friday's events take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday's events go from noon to 5 p.m.

Over the two days, attendees will enjoy a pop-up ice skating rink, live ice carving, a designer-built yurt village, restaurant and retail specials, an ice bar, and more.

Chestnut Hill on Ice is free to attend, with pay-as-you-go activities for all ages.

Attendees will be able to glide across a 1,920-square-foot iceless rink popping-up for one day only in Chestnut Hill. Skates in varying sizes and walkers for non-skaters will be available on-site.

After your skating session, warm up at nearby fire pits with food, libations, and a hot chocolate bar provided by La Chocolatera Food Truck. The rink will be located at Chestnut Hill’s Blue Parking Lot at 184 E. Evergreen Ave. and will be open Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

Skating admission is $10 per person.

Ice sculptures will be displayed along Germantown Avenue on Friday and Saturday. Live ice carving shows by Peter Slavin and his team will also take place at designated locations. Ice Sculpture Philly is the world’s first performance ice sculpting company, combining action adventure, humor, drama, and audience participation to create an unforgettable experience.

The Ice Carving Demonstration will be located at 8125 Germantown Ave. and will take place Saturday, February 1, from 1 to 3 p.m.

A Yurt Village will offer tents fitted out with chic furnishings styled by Tallulah & Bird, Tailored Home, and Summer Classics. The Yurt Village will be open Friday and Saturday during regular Chestnut Hill on Ice hours and will be located at Laurel Hill Gardens, 8125 Germantown Ave.

To close the event, there will be an 8-foot bonfire encased in a pillar of ice. The Ice Bonfire will be lit at 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 1 at 184 E. Evergreen Ave.

Chestnut Hill Brewing Company’s beer garden will become an outdoor ice bar for Chestnut Hill on Ice. Enjoy ice-cold locally brewed beers and wines at their outdoor

Ice Bar, carved entirely out of blocks of ice, will be located at Fareway, 8221 Germantown Ave and will be open both days during regular Chestnut Hill on Ice hours.

Warming stations with fire pits will be located along Germantown Avenue, offering attendees the chance to warm up while enjoying beverages and snacks.

Constellation Brands will provide wine tastings in the courtyard at 8338 Germantown Ave. with B101 FM games and prizes. Stateside Vodka will offer tastings, cocktails, and bottle sales at their mobile bar at Laurel Hill Gardens on Friday night and Saturday and will have service at the Ice Skating rink on Saturday.

Returning for the second year, Chestnut Hill’s restaurants will enter a friendly competition to see who can cook up the best chili. Taste one or taste them all while exploring the Hill on Friday and Saturday.

  • El Poquito - Sanora Spiced Chorizo Sweet Potato Chili
  • Tavern on the Hill - Cockle Warming Chili with Fresh Tortillas to Order
  • Chestnut Hill Brewing Company Taproom - Spicy Black Bean Chili (plant-based)
