Philadelphia Enacts Code Blue As Frigid Temperatures Loom

Low temperatures and strong winds are forecasted for the next several days, prompting Philadelphia officials to enact a Code Blue

PHILADELPHIA – With frigid temperatures and strong winds expected over the next several days, Philadelphia officials enacted a Code Blue cold weather emergency.

The city enacts Code Blue during when temperatures feel near or below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

During a Code Blue, the city takes special measures to keep people who are homeless safe. These measures include:

  • 24-hour outreach to find people who are homeless and transport them to safe indoor spaces.
  • Opening all available beds within the emergency housing network to people who are homeless.
  • Allowing homeless people to stay inside emergency housing throughout the day.

In addition, residents are urged to call the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging at (215) 765-9040 with concerns about elderly residents' well-being during the Code Blue.
