Due to the harsh weather that has gripped the region, SEPTA is making changes to its Jan. 5 services. See details on Friday's plan here.

PHILADELPHIA – The harsh weather that has gripped the Philadelphia region led SEPTA officials to enact a Saturday schedule for its Regional Rail trains on Friday, Jan. 5.

Officials announced the change to Friday's rail schedule, as well as other changes to its Friday services, early Thursday evening at a press conference.

SEPTA General Manager Jeff Knueppel said Thursday that all Regional Rail trains will be operating under an enhanced Saturday schedule on Friday.

"We're trying to limit the amount of trains out on the system tomorrow," Knueppel said.

The shifted schedule will provide about 75 percent of typical Regional Rail service, and Knueppel said SEPTA can always add more trains to the schedule if need be.

Knueppel also said rescue buses will be stationed along routes in the event of some sort of failure or issue that prevents the trains from running and forces passengers off trains.

All Cynwyd line trains will be replaced by buses Friday, as well.

An enhanced Wilmington/Newark Line schedule with service to the Newark and Churchmans Crossing Stations in Delaware will run Friday, Knueppel said. See that line's schedule here.

SEPTA also said it plans to run regular weekday bus service Friday, Jan. 5. However, passengers should anticipate detours and delays due to road conditions.

"Tomorrow, if you have to go out, please dress appropriately and leave extra time for you travel," Knueppel said. "Think ahead, make sure that you double check on the information and how you're getting around our system."
