Man Dead After Prompting Cranberry Shelter-In-Place Order
A man died Tuesday in a tense situation in Cranberry that resulted in a shelter-in-place edict for township residents.
CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA — A man is dead following an extensive manhunt Tuesday that triggered a police shelter-in-place order for township residents for several hours.
Police have yet to reveal how the unidentified man died in the incident, which began when Cranberry Highlands Golf Course employees encountered a man who told them his vehicle was disabled. The employees notified police after noticing the man was not speaking coherently and had weapons in the vehicle.
The workers "specifically were seeing long guns and a weapon described as an AR-type long gun," township police Chief Kevin Meyer said at a news conference Tuesday evening. "Officers arrived a short time later and found the vehicle unoccupied."

In addition to the weapons, officers "found some notes inside the vehicle that were extremely concerning to the officers, indicating that this person was not mentally stable and possibly wanting to do harm to either himself or others,” Meyer said.
The situation prompted the shelter-in-place edict and the summoning of multiple law enforcement agencies to search for the man. The advisory was issued around 1:30 p.m. and lifted around 3:30 p.m. after the man was located along Freshcorn Road.
