Police Shot, Killed Armed Man In Cranberry Shelter-In-Place Incident

Pennsylvania State Police said that officers shot and killed an armed man near the Cranberry Heights Golf Course on Tuesday.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA — Pennsylvania State Police said officers shot and killed an armed man they had been searching for Tuesday as township residents sheltered in place, Pennsylvania State Police said.

State Police and the Butler County District Attorney's Office are continuing to investigate the officer-involved shooting death of Logan Cumberland, 37, of Ellwood City, Lawrence County, near the Cranberry Heights Golf Course.

State police on Wednesday released Cumberland's name and the manner of his death.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Cranberry police were notified of a suspicious man who had pulled his vehicle over near a golf course entrance. The man, who left the immediate area prior to police arriving, was seen armed with a rifle.

Responding officers located the vehicle and observed numerous additional firearms inside of it. Multiple police departments, including a Pennsylvania State Police Aviation Unit, responded to the area and assisted in searching for the man.

Township residents were instructed to shelter in place at around 1 p.m. At approximately 3 p.m., officers located the man in a wooded area near the golf course. They confronted the suspect and fatally shot him, according to state police.

No officers were injured. State police did not indicate in a news release whether Cumberland fired any shots before being killed.
