At the time of his death, Russo was living with Heidi Smith, an elementary teacher at neighboring school district.
State police spokesman Trooper Dan Kesten told KDKA Laszcyznski was a person of interest in Russo’s murder, but charges were never filed against him.
A Hampton resident, Laszcyznski, 46, died in June. KDKA reports he committed suicide by taping explosives to his head and then detonating them.
Russo’s family told the news station they were disappointed Laszcyznski’s death meant he could not be further questioned.
“That’s probably one of the worst things that I’d want to hear at this point because now I don’t know if I will get my answers,” Jayme Russo, the victim’s brother, said.
Kesten said authorities continue to investigate Russo’s death.
“The case never was cleared,” he told KDKA.
