Three-Time Cancer 'Conquerer' and Marathoner Will Speak at Cancer Survivor Event

Matt Jones will speak for West Penn Allegheny Oncology Network's 11th annual celebration of cancer survivorship on November 8th.

Three-time cancer conqueror and worldwide marathon runner Matt Jones will speak for West Penn Allegheny Oncology Network’s 11th annual celebration of cancer survivorship on Saturday November 8th from 9:30-10:30 at Four Points Sheraton North in Cranberry Township.

Matt Jones was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2002 when he was still a senior in college. After spreading to the fluid in his brain he was given less than a 10 percent chance of survival. Around Valentine’s Day of 2004 he slipped into an unconscious state and doctors did not think he would live. Against all odds he recovered but due to brain damage had to relearn how to walk.

After a successful bone marrow transplant in 2004, Matt’s goal was to complete a marathon. Since that time he has run six marathons on six continents. So far he has run marathons in San Diego, Rome, Tokyo, Perth, Cape Town, and Peru. His goal is to do one on every continent, which just leaves Antarctica.

Through his experiences, Matt fires up, pumps up, and inspires audiences to overcome obstacles and achieve greater victory both personally and professionally. According to Matt, “when it comes to your victory it’s not the outside stuff that matters but the inside stuff that counts.”
