Volunteers Needed to Plant Western PA Conservancy Community Gardens

The work of more than 13,000 volunteers from neighborhoods, schools, businesses and organizations have made it possible for communities in 20 counties, including Butler, to enjoy 135 gardens.

While driving in the region, have you noticed the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s community gardens?

These gardens, including the ones in Butler County that are planted by volunteers each spring, have helped beautify the region.

According to the conservancy's website, corporate and organizational sponsorships and the work of more than 13,000 volunteers from neighborhoods, schools, businesses and organizations have made it possible for communities in 20 counties to enjoy 135 gardens.

Volunteers are needed to help with this spring's community flower garden planting.

Planting dates for the Butler County gardens are listed below. Events begin at 9 a.m. unless otherwise noted:

Butler

  • Route 68 and Hansen Avenue—May 18
  • Route 8 and Route 422—(No date listed. Contact conservancy for information.)

Slippery Rock

  • Route 173 and East Cooper Street—(No date listed. Contact conservancy for information.)
