Volunteers Needed to Plant Western PA Conservancy Community Gardens

While driving in the region, have you noticed the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy's community gardens?

These gardens, which are planted by volunteers each spring, including the ones in the Dormont-Brookline area, have helped to beautify the region. According to the conservancy's website, corporate and organizational sponsorships and the work of more than 13,000 volunteers from neighborhoods, schools, businesses and other organizations have made it possible for communities in 20 counties to enjoy 135 gardens.

Volunteers are needed to help with this spring's community flower garden planting.

Planting dates for local gardens are listed below. All events begin at 9 a.m. unless otherwise noted:

Beechview

• 810 Rockland Ave., Beechwood Elementary School—May 8

Castle Shannon/Mt. Lebanon

• Castle Shannon Boulevard & Mt. Lebanon Boulevard—May 11

Dormont/Banksville

• Dormont Avenue/Dwight Avenue & Banksville Road—May 16

Beechview/Dormont

• Wenzell Avenue & Broadway Avenue—May 18, 10 a.m.

Banksville/West End

• Fort Pitt Tunnel, I-376 Parkway West—May 22, 8:30 a.m.

Green Tree

• Parkway West, Green Tree Interchange—(No date listed. Contact conservancy for information.)
