3 Delco Residents Killed In Thanksgiving Day Crash

Two adults and one child perished in the fatal, single-vehicle accident on Thanksgiving Day in Kanawha County, West Virginia.

KANAWHA COUNTY, WEST VIRGINIA — Three people from Pennsylvania were killed, including one child, during a Thanksgiving Day vehicle crash in West Virginia.

The accident, which occurred at around 6 a.m. Thursday along Interstate 79 South at the mile 11 marker, claimed the lives of Nighat Syeda, 71, Hira Syeda, 33, and one child, whose age was not given.

The victims were traveling from Upper Darby, Delaware County to Kentucky at the time the single-vehicle accident occurred, according to a news release from the Kanawha County (West Virginia) Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said they believe the victims were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the fatal crash.

According to the sheriff's office, the victims' SUV was traveling southbound on the highway when it veered off the roadway, entered and exited a ditch line, and then came to a rest along the hillside.

There is currently no word on may have caused the crash, which spanned several hundred yards.

Two other children who were in the vehicle at the time survived the crash and were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, which the sheriff's office described as "serious."

The ages of the children were not given.

"The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office expresses our condolences to the friends and family of those involved in today's tragic accident," the office said in a statement.

The sheriff's office urged all motorists to use their seatbelts when traveling.

The crash continues to be investigated.
