Coronavirus Cases, Incident Rate Up 111% In Delco, Data Shows

All six of the key coronavirus metrics measured by the state increased from Christmas Eve to New Year's Eve, some by more than double.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Coronavirus cases and the incidence rate per 100,000 more than doubled in Delaware County over a seven-day period, according to the latest data from the state.

Pennsylvania Department of Health data shows cases increased from 2,374 to 5,018 — a 111 percent increase — from Christmas Eve Dec. 24 to New Year's Eve Dec. 31.

The incidence rate per 100,000 people also increased by 111 percent, going up from 418.9 to 885.4 in that timeframe.

Delaware County's positive test rate nearly doubled, going up from 14.9 percent to 28.8 percent.

Average daily coronavirus specific hospitalizations increased by 34 percent from Christmas Eve to New Year's Eve, rising from 79.1 to 106.

The average number of those patients who are on ventilators increased from 5.3 to 6.4.

Lastly, the percent of people showing up to hospitals with coronavirus-like illnesses saw a nearly 60 percent increase, with the figure increasing to 4.3 from 2.7 percent.

As of Monday, 335,276 people in Delaware County have been fully vaccinated and 72,871 have been partially vaccinated; 106,921 people have gotten a third dose since Aug. 13.

State data shows 71,465 people have had the coronavirus in Delaware County and 1,584 people have died from the coronavirus.
