Delco's Back-to-School Fair Is Saturday In Yeadon

The Delaware County Health Department has teamed up with Marvel to create a poster to raise lead awareness via the Lead Free 1-2-3 campaign.

YEADON, PA — The Delaware County Health Department is hosting its second annual "Back-to-School Fair" this weekend in Yeadon. And due to overwhelming demand, all registration slots for free backpacks with school supplies and school immunization appointments have been filled.

The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Delaware County Health Department Wellness Center at Yeadon 125 Chester Pike in Yeadon.

While the slots are filled, residents who missed registration are still welcome to attend and enjoy free community resources and services at the fair. Students without registration confirmation from the health department are not guaranteed a backpack.

This year’s fair offers students free services and activities to help them start the school year ready to succeed. Students will have access to on-site dental exams, vision screenings, hair cut vouchers, and more.

The event will also feature face painting, ice cream treats, and other family-friendly activities.

"With each school year comes a new opportunity for our students to excel in the classroom and pursue their dreams," Delaware County Health Director Lora Siegmann Werner said. "Through the amazing support of our community and sponsors, DCHD’s 2nd annual Back-to-School Fair gives each student the supplies, immunizations, and resources to make it the best year yet!"

Additionally, the health department is unveiling a one-of-a-kind poster, created in collaboration with Marvel, to support and promote DCHD’s Lead Free 1-2-3 campaign.

This comic book poster is designed to raise lead poisoning awareness and engage the community around the campaign’s mission. The art features Iron Man battling DCHD’s lead campaign monsters throughout Delaware County.

Single prints of the poster and coloring companion sheets will be available inside the Wellness Center at Yeadon for all students. One poster print per student.

This lead awareness and education campaign is an initiative of the Delaware County Health Department and is funded by a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration of the Department of Health and Human Services. The award provided 100 percent of total costs and totaled $25,000.

The health department thanked its partners for their time and commitment to ensuring local students start the school year prepared and ready to succeed.
