Haverford's E-Scooter, E-Bike Helmet Ordinance Now In Effect

HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP, PA — Those who ride e-scooters and e-bike in Haverford Township without helmets will now be fined.

Haverford Township Ordinance P9-2025 was passed back in September.

The ordinance requires anyone under the age of 16 to wear a helmet when riding an e-bicycle or e-scooter. This also applies to anyone operating the e-bicycle, riding as a passenger, or riding in an attached restraining seat or trailer.

And after a two-and-a-half-month warning period, violators are now on the hook for citations.

Effective Thursday, scofflaws will be issued $25 fines.

The township moved to introduce the new ordinance after the death of 12-year-old Abigail Gillon.

She died after being struck by a vehicle on June 16 in Aston Township while she and her friend, Isabella Jones, rode an electric scooter together. Jones has recovered after being seriously hurt in the crash.
