Havertown Church Makes Switch To Solar Power

Temple Lutheran Church recently had a 44 kW, grid-tied, solar array added to its roof, which will offset 100 percent of its annual usage.

HAVERTOWN, PA — The Temple Lutheran Church in Havertown has gone green by installing solar panels on its roof, according to officials.

Solarize DelCo recently announced the congregation added a 44 kW, grid-tied, solar array at the church with the help of its Environmental Committee and Solarize DelCo.

Solarize DelCo is an all volunteer program of neighbors helping neighbors to go solar.

The electricity produced on the roofs of the buildings is enough to offset 100 percent of the annual electricity usage and eliminate 24 tons of carbon emissions annually.

Congregants and government officials will cut the ribbon signifying the start of solar power generation at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Solarize Delco was founded in 2019 to assist residents, businesses and non-profits to go solar
the easy way.

Neighbors who have already installed solar volunteer their time to provide simple information, screen each location for feasibility and provide a no fuss path to installation.

To date, Solarize DelCo is responsible for over 25 solar installations in Delaware County providing over 254 kW of solar energy.

All Delaware County property owners can go solar through the program and similar programs in
Philadelphia and other Southeastern Pennsylvania counties are available to the entire region.
