Lou's Jewelry & Pawn Marks 100 Years with Charitable Celebration
Iconic Upper Darby Pawn Shop Raises Money for Gift of Life Donors are Heroes Program with Street Fair on 69th Street
It’s rare for any retail shop to reach a hundred years in business. It’s rarer still for its owner to be recognized on the street. So it’s only appropriate that a man and shop that deal in rarities check both those boxes. Lou’s Jewelry & Pawn, founded by Louis Myerson in October 1921, remains a hub for buying, selling and loans today in the Upper Darby location it’s occupied since 1984.
On Nov. 13, 2021, Lou’s hosted a 100th anniversary celebration and open house in front of its location at 29 South 69th Street in Upper Darby, just a few doors down from the Tower Theater. The event, which included hot dogs, Philly Pretzels, DJ, prizes, and a raffle for fine dining certificates, raised money for Gift of Life Donors are Heroes Program, which store owner Stanton Myerson matched.
Upper Darby Mayor Barbarann Keffer read a proclamation in honor of the store’s 100-year milestone. Council members Danyelle Blackwell, Bob Gwin and Laura Wentz also joined in the celebration.

Two lucky winners went home with dining certificates for Steak 48 and Rittenhouse Grill in Center City.
“We were so gratified by the turnout of well wishers and the community at large, and a big thank you to the township officials who attended and a shout out to the terrific restaurants that donated dinners for a great cause,” said Myerson. “As we embark on our second 100 years, I’m grateful that I’ve been able to continue my father’s legacy and make this shop a part of the fabric of Upper Darby.”
