Shop Small Saturday Supports Haverford Township Businesses

Complete our passport and be entered into our raffle of gift baskets valued over $1,800!

Haverford Partnership for Economic Development (HPED) is excited to announce their H-Town Holidays Shop Small Saturday on Saturday, November 27th from 10:00am-8:00pm.

“Retail businesses are now gearing up for what they hope will be a successful holiday shopping season,” explains Jeanne Angell, Executive Director of HPED. “Businesses rely on your holiday purchases to sustain them through the leaner winter months. Right now, more than ever, we need to support our local businesses, rather than turn to big box stores and Amazon.”

There will be several initiatives to spruce up the town in preparation for the big day. The Township will hang their holiday lights in the business districts, and a group of HPED staff and volunteers will be adding greens, branches, and berries to the planters in town.

HPED will also be hosting our annual Holiday Display Contest for Haverford Township Businesses. Judging Panel Member and local artist, Rudy Miller of E. R. Miller Designs, shares her enthusiasm. "It seems to me that in the last few years, the beautification projects in Havertown have grown exponentially. The gardens, the tree plantings, facade improvements and so on. The Holiday window decoration contest adds to these initiatives in such a meaningful way, providing beauty and good cheer to our residents and all who come to Haverford Township. I'm looking forward to seeing the kinds of creative and festive displays our business community comes up with this year." Haverford Township businesses who would like to participate in the contest, should register with Don Kelly at donaldkelly@aol.com by December 1st.

The Township will offer free parking at all meters and lots that day, and HPED is compiling a list of retail businesses with special discounts that they will offer the day of the event. An HPED information tent will be set up near the corner of Darby and W. Benedict Ave. with free hot chocolate, candy canes, shop small stickers and shopping bags, a list of businesses offering specials that day, and the H-Town Holidays Passport.

The H-town Holidays Passport can be picked up at the HPED Booth or downloaded in advance from the Discover Haverford website. Earn stickers by making a gift purchase at a Haverford Township business, purchasing a Keep it Local Gift Card, dropping off a donation to a designated Toys for Tots location that day, or patronizing a Haverford Township restaurant. Look for balloons to mark participating stores. Earn four stickers and return your passport to the HPED booth, and you will be entered into the amazing raffle of gift baskets which will be pulled at the end of the day. “We have over $1,800 in prizes to raffle off, from home products and toys, to gift certificates for stores, services and restaurants,” announced Melissa Batchelor, HPED’s project coordinator.

At 6:45pm, the Havertones will perform a short concert of holiday songs at the Triangle Garden on Darby Road in Oakmont, followed by a tree lighting with Santa at 7:00pm. Residents should plan to watch the event from a safe distance, on either side of Darby Road.
