The Borough Of Hatboro Will Improve Local Plaza Space Thanks To A T-Mobile Hometown Grant

The Borough of Hatboro was one of 25 towns across the entire country to receive a T-Mobile Hometown Grant.

HATBORO, PA — The borough announced this week that it is one of only 25 small towns across the entire United States who have received a T-Mobile Hometown Grant, which is designed to help small communities kickstart local development projects.

Borough officials said that their share of the grant dollars — the exact dollar figure was not divulged — will go toward improving a central plaza within the community by adding seating, lighting, new sidewalks and information to improve pedestrian amenities in the area of 39-41 S. York Road.

"We are extremely excited for this project and are very grateful for everyone at T-Mobile who selected our project for funding!" the borough posted on Facebook.

T-Mobile says that each quarter, up to 25 small communities nationwide receive a Hometown Grant, which is a $25 million, five-year initiative designed to support people and organizations who help small towns thrive and grow through various development projects.

According to T-Mobile, towns across the country that have a population of fewer than 50,000 people are eligible to receive the grant.

T-Mobile says it works with Main Street America and Smart Growth America — two organizations that have longed strove to help build stronger and more prosperous small towns and rural communities — on selecting Hometown grant recipients.

"The T-Mobile Hometown Grants provided to these communities represent a commitment to investing in historic assets, community gathering places, and the expansion of facilities and technologies for residents," Smart Growth America President and CEO Calvin Gladney said in a statement.

Hatboro was one of only two Pennsylvania towns in receipt of the grant dollars, the other being Kutztown, a small borough in Berks County that is home to Kutztown University.

With its share of the grant funding, Kutztown says it plans to build an outdoor fitness court that will be "part art gallery, part outdoor gym and point of pride for the community," according to a T-Mobile news release.
