HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — He sometimes wears a sign that says "Pet Me." But don't mess with K9 Mac — he's recognized as one of the best in the business.

You would think the 2-year-old Labrador/Golden Retriever mix is like any other dog, accepting pets and treats, and getting his belly rubbed or running around playing with children.

But K-9 Mac is special. He's only one of 119 dogs trained in the world specially trained in detecting electronic storage devices.

K9 Mac has now served as a member of the Horsham Township Police Department for two years.

K9 Mac and his handler, Horsham Township Detective Kimberly Ngo in May were awarded the Montgomery County District Attorney's Commendation for Exceptional Service for their work in assisting the county's Detective Bureau's Homicide Unit with investigating a robbery and homicide in Norristown.

The duo systematically searched a large portion of a Norristown park, locating the cell phone of the homicide victim. That phone was stolen by the murderer at the time of the robbery and later discarded after fleeing the crime scene.

DA Steele also mentioned the countless other investigations that Detective Ngo and K9 Mac have assisted in Montgomery County and beyond.
