HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — Right off the busy Maple Glen Triangle, construction has changed the scene behind the Key Bank.

This parcel has transformed from trees damaged by Hurricane Ida four years ago, to a flat plain of dirt, to townhome structures rising from the ground.

And now it's a constant presence of construction trucks and crews, which are transforming the Norristown Road site into 53 townhomes on 14 acres.

On the other side of the Maple Glen Triangle in Upper Dublin Township, the land where the tornado wiped out tons of trees remains empty, with residents worrying and wondering if more housing will be coming to an intersection they say is overly congested as it is.

The Maple Glen Triangle is where Horsham Township and Upper Dublin Township meet, separated by Welsh Road.

This is the area where traffic congests Norristown Road during the morning and evening rush hours, where gridlock and traffic occur, and where vehicles line up on Limekiln Road waiting for the traffic light to change colors.

Now, the first structure of the townhomes is under construction while more slates are being prepared for housing.

Nearly a year ago, the Horsham Township Council approved the project that was originally zoned for single-family housing despite objections from more than a dozen residents regarding traffic and quality-of-life concerns.

Developers Bruce Goodman and Sal, Dominic, and Sam Paone of Paone Builders have modified plans since the project was first presented in June 2022.

The Paone Brothers said they will make improvements to the intersection to ease the traffic burden.

It's still unclear when the homes will be completed and put up for sale.

Six acres will be preserved and reforested after trees were destroyed or damaged by the September 2021 tornado that swept through Horsham and Upper Dublin townships.
