The Hatboro Officer Who Suffered Cardiac Arrest From Bee Sting Reaction Slowly Recovers
Hatboro Officer Ryan Allen has been hospitalized for over a month after suffering cardiac arrest brought on by bee sting allergic reaction.

HATBORO, PA — It has now been over a month that local police officer Ryan Allen has been hospitalized after suffering cardiac arrest brought on by a bee sting allergic reaction, and the road to recovery appears to be small but steady.
Allen, a Hatboro Police Department K9 Unit officer and beloved member of the force, suffered a heart attack back in October that was brought on by anaphylactic shock caused by a bee sting reaction.
Since that time, he has been under round-the-clock doctor supervision at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia.

This past Saturday, his wife, Whitney Allen, took to social media to update the community on her husband's condition.
"Ryan just passed the 1 month mark of being in the Neuro ICU at Penn Presbyterian on 11/11," Whitney Allen wrote on Facebook. "I know this date is no coincidence as I have been surrounded by angel numbers all day, every day since Ryan's medical emergency."

Whitney Allen said she is hoping her husband can soon be transferred to a rehabilitation facility, where he would "have to likely learn how to do all, if not most activities of daily living again.
"Through this process I am learning a type of patience and hope that I have never had to endure before but I know this is a long haul and I'm still taking it moment by moment right now," Whitney Allen wrote in her post.
Whitney Allen said in order for her husband to be discharged to the rehab facility, he needs to be liberated from his ventilator for 48 hours. He had previously been removed from the breathing apparatus, but she said it was done "too hard" at first, and Ryan Allen ended up developing another bout of pneumonia that required his continued breathing assistance.
This past Saturday, Whitney Allen said her husband was off of the ventilator for about 12 hours with "excellent vitals" during that time, and that doctors were aiming to have Ryan Allen off the ventilator even longer, around 16 hours, over the weekend.
Whitney Allen also said the couple's young son, Jackson — she is currently pregnant with their second child — got the go ahead from doctors to be able to visit his dad in the hospital for the first time since Ryan Allen had been admitted following the medical episode.
"Ryan's physician believes it is important to Ryan's recovery to have Jackson visit him and I couldn't agree more," Whitney Allen posted. "I am very grateful the hospital was able to make this exception and I am grateful Jack will see his dada that he has missed so much. He is a very smart boy and knows that his daddy is sick but getting batter at the hospital. He mentions Ryan daily and I know he is excited to see him."
Ryan Allen is held in high regard at the Hatboro Police Department. Chief James Gardner previously told Patch that the young officer had helped to start the department's K9 Unit, and that he is a very beloved member of the force.
