Soaring Electric Bills Prompt Policy Hearing With Montco Lawmakers

WARMINSTER TOWNSHIP, PA — The rising use of electricity has triggered soaring electric bills for most consumers.

State Rep. Brian Munroe was joined by area lawmakers for a policy hearing recently at the Warminster Township municipal building to find out why rates are rising and what measures can be taken to lower costs and save people money.

The hearing was attended by state Rep. Nancy Guenst, Rep. Melissa Cerrato, Rep. Mary Isaacson, Rep. Jim Prokopiak, Rep. Perry Warren, Rep. Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz, and Rep. Heather Boyd.

Cerrato said she sympathizes with residents over electric bills these days.

"We need to focus on ways to bring down electric bills for families and businesses. The cost of this basic necessity seems to keep climbing, and I feel that weight just like so many in our community," Cerrato said.

As a member of the Energy Committee, Cerrato said she is committed to exploring and supporting legislation to ease the cost burden and "make daily life a little more affordable."

"Everyone deserves access to reliable and reasonably priced energy," Cerrato said.

“Families and seniors on fixed incomes are struggling to stay in their homes while having to decide between paying bills and buying food," Munroe said. "This is a required conversation to find out what we can do to provide much-needed relief to our residents.”
