Summer Solicitor Scam Warning Issued In Horsham

Horsham ChATs warns residents to be on the lookout for solicitors knocking door-to-door without permits.

HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — Horsham ChATs is warning residents to be on the lookout for the annual summer solicitor scam in the township.

Horsham Community Police Services said the township, like many communities, has a solicitor ordinance to protect residents from door-to-door solicitor scammers.

Horsham ChATs said the basic scamming rules are as follows:

  • Those who have obtained a valid permit are permitted to solicit Monday through Saturday during daylight hours.
  • No peddling shall be allowed on Sundays or on any state or federal legal holiday.
  • Persons or organizations engaged in door-to-door canvassing on religious or political subjects, or distributing religious or political handbills, are exempt from the license requirements of this chapter.

Horsham ChATs said that anyone who suspects that a door to-door solicitor is violating the ordinance should call 911 and report it immediately.

A police officer will be sent to investigate. Horsham ChATs also urges residents not to open their doors to strangers.
