HATBORO, PA — The wife of the Hatboro police officer who has been hospitalized since the fall after suffering cardiac arrest due to a bee sting allergic reaction says she got to see her husband for the first time in two weeks this past weekend, the visit marking the first time she saw her spouse since she delivered the couple's second son.

Whitney Allen said Sunday marked the first time in 14 days that she was able to see Ryan Allen in person at Good Shepherd, a facility in Bethlehem, Pa.

Ryan Allen has been under medical care since he suffered a heart attack this fall due to a rare bee sting reaction.

Whitney Allen said Good Shepherd staff had recently limited in-person visits at the facility, but that she was finally able to come in and see her husband this weekend, and that previously she was only limited to two-hour video calls on hospital-only devices.

"We were obviously very anxious to see him and I'm even more grateful Leo came just shy of a week early so I have been blissfully distracted by newborn snuggles, middle of the night feedings and lots of diaper changes," Whitney Allen posted to Facebook.

Leo, the couple's second child, was born last week.

Whitney Allen further stated that she has been in talks with Moss Rehab in Philadelphia about her husband's ultimate transfer back to that facility once he receives the OK from Good Shepherd.

She said the hope is to have a transfer date by the end of this week.

"We have obviously been in constant contact with his nurses everyday and they have reported to us that Ryan's respiratory status has improved and his cough has gotten stronger which has eliminated a lot of the suctioning of his trach that was required when he was first admitted to Good Shepherd, and the reason why he could not tolerate rehabilitation," Whitney Allen posted. "As with each step of this process we remain hopeful but don't know what to expect when Ryan is transferred back to rehab."

Whitney Allen also said she is excited about the prospect of her husband meeting their new baby boy once the transfer back to the Philadelphia region occurs.

"Please continue to keep Ryan in your thoughts and prayers again as we continue to navigate this gauntlet of recovery and different health care facilities," Whitney Allen posted.
