HATBORO, PA — The wife of a Hatboro police officer who has been hospitalized for months after suffering cardiac arrest brough on by a bee sting allergic reaction has given birth to the couple's second child.

Whitney Allen announced through social media on Monday that she delivered the couple's newest addition, who has been named Leo Joseph Allen.

Whitney Allen gave birth without her husband by her side, as Ryan Allen continues to be treated at the rehabilitation facility Good Shepherd in Bethlehem, Pa.

"You had the most chaotic pregnancy but have already shown how resilient, strong and sweet you are," Whitney Allen posted on her Facebook page, which included a photo of the new baby. "You are truly the needed addition to our family that we need during this time. I know you and your brother will be the main catalyst in your daddy's recovery."

Whitney Allen titled her post "My little calm in the storm ..."

In a separate post from last Friday, Whitney Allen said that staff at Good Shepherd has not allowed visitations due to infection control policies, and that Ryan Allen's family has been unable to see him since early last week.

"We have tried everything in our power to persuade upper management to allow our family an exception as Ryan's brain injury recovery is directly correlated to being stimulated on a consistent basis throughout the day, which we have been providing as a family since his medical emergency in October," Whitney Allen posted. "Unfortunately only certain harms are being considered in this decision and our pleas have been denied.

"As a family, we are completely and utterly exhausted and heart broken as we continue fighting for Ryan's life (which is how important our presence is to his recovery) and we just pray that Ryan will continue to fight the internal strength on his own to keep fighting even in our physical absence."

Whitney Allen posted that as long as her husband's respiratory status continues to improve at Good Shepherd, he may soon be considered strong enough to be transferred back to Moss Rehabilitation in Philadelphia, which is closer to home for the couple, who live in Doylestown, Bucks County.
