Lower Providence Woman Facing Competency Evaluation for Allegedly Stabbing Her Mother
Lauren Kimmel will be evaluated to see if she is competent to proceed to a court hearing.

According to The Reporter, Lauren Michelle Kimmel’s preliminary court hearing was postponed last week in order for Kimmel to undergo a competency evaluation. Kimmel, 29, of the 100 block of Eaglestream Drive, allegedly stabbed her mother during a family visit on Aug. 28. She has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possessing instruments of crime, endangering welfare of children and other related crimes.
Kimmel’s lawyer, Thomas Curluccio, requested the postponement before District Court Judge Cathleen Kelly Rebar.
According to the affidavit, police were dispatched to the Eaglestream Apartments in Eagleville for a report of a disturbance . Upon arrival, officers found a young girl crying on the front steps. The child told police that her mother and grandmother were fighting, and led police to the apartment.
Police found Kimmel on top of another woman, later identified as her mother and the child’s grandmother. According to the affidavit, Kimmel had one hand on the woman's mouth and the other on her throat. Officers observed a stab wound on the mother's left chest, near her heart.
