Montco Man Tried To Assault Woman On Schuylkill River Trail: Police

Police in Upper Merion Township said the suspect, Michael Wiggins, grabbed the victim and tried to forcibly pull down her pants.

UPPER MERION, PA — Local police said they arrested a man late last week after he attempted to assault a woman along the Schuylkill River Trail.

Upper Merion Police say they received a report on May 27 a little after 1:30 in the afternoon of an adult female who said while out for a walk on the trail, a male suspect came up behind her, grabbed her hips and then attempted to forcibly pull down her pants.

The woman was able to push the suspect away and escape the attack.

Police said the attempted assault occurred on a portion of the Schuylkill River Trail behind the Valley Forge Towers luxury apartment complex.

The victim was able to provide a description of the suspect and he was arrested minutes later by police officers who located him based on the description.

Arrested was Michael Wiggins, 26, of King of Prussia.

Court records show that Wiggins was charged with indecent assault by forcible compulsion, indecent assault without consent of others and simple assault, all misdemeanors.

He was arraigned on May 27 before Magisterial District Judge Henry J. Schireson and then subsequently released from custody after posting $5,000 unsecured bail, according to court records.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 8 before Magisterial District Judge James P. Gallagher.
