Middletown Day, Delco Vet Memorial, Farmers Market Among Weekend Events [Get Out]

There are lots of things happening this weekend. It's a weekend full of community events. Middletown Township will hold its 19th Annual Community Day, the new Delaware County Veterans Memorial will be dedicated, Media Farmers' Market kicks off and a parent forum on prescription drug abuse will be held Thursday.

Middletown Township's 19th Annual Community Day

• When: Saturday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine
• Where: Penn State Brandywine, 25 Yearsley Mill Rd, Media
• Why Go: Celebrate Middletown with a day full of music, entertainment, fire engine rides, pony rides, hay rides, games, prizes, food, and much more. The Greater Overbrook String Band will also be performing and will conduct a Mummer’s Strutting contest. Who can strut like a mummer?

Delaware County Veterans Memorial Dedication

• When: Saturday, May 11, at 11 a.m.
• Where: Off of West Chester Pike/Route 3 and Alice Grim Blvd. in Newtown Square.
• Why Go: The memorial, honoring past, present, and future Delco veterans, will be dedicated with several guest speakers including Master of Ceremonies Benjamin Patton, Former Governor of Pennsylvania and 1st US Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge, and Governor Tom Corbett.

 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll

• When: Saturday, May 11, at 11 a.m.
• Where: Downtown Media
• Why Go: Some of this month's featured artists include, Anne Marie Palita, Lois Jones, Emily Geddes and Keith Sharp and Huey & the Banjo will perform at 7 p.m. at Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union
• Cost: Free

Media Farmers' Market

• When: Thursdays through November, from 3 to 7 p.m.
• Where: Next to Media Theatre, at the corner of State and Gayley streets
• Why Go: Celebrate the kick off of this year's Media Farmers Market and pick up some local produce, products, baked goods and more.
• Cost: Varies

Marple Newtown High School Arts and Crafts Fair

• When: Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine
• Where: Marple Newtown Senior High School, 120 Media Line Rd, Newtown Square
• Why Go: The Student Sunshine Scholarship Fund will sponsor its first craft fair. This scholarship fund will provide for students at the high school who may be facing a financial hardship. Shop for fine arts and crafts while supporting your local students.

BandFest at DCCC

• When: Friday, May 10, at 6 p.m.
•  Where: Delaware County Community College, 901 S. Media Line Road, Broomall in the College’s Large Auditorium
• Why Go: Enjoy a hilarious night of comedy and great local music. Local standup comedian Chris Nee will MC the event, which features performances by several area bands and headliners the Big Package Band and the DCCC Contemporary Band.

Spring Carnival

• When: May 8-10, from 5 to 11 p.m. and May 11-12, from noon to 11 p.m.
• Where: Granite Run Mall, 1067 W. Baltimore Pike, Media
• Why Go: Enjoy family-fun with rides and games for everyone in the mall's Route 1 parking lot.
• Cost: $25

Drug Abuse Awareness Forum

• When: Thursday, May 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
• Where: Upper Darby Performing Arts Center, located 601 N. Lansdowne Avenue in Drexel Hill
• Why Go: The Office of the District Attorney, in partnership with Delaware County Council and Upper Darby School District, will be host a forum to inform parents about the dangers of prescription drugs and painkillers. Parents will hear how children are getting these drugs, how they are becoming addicted, the warning signs of prescription drug abuse and ways to get help.
