Penncrest Collects 7.5 Tons of Food, Wins $1K
Penncrest High School collected 7.5 tons of food for Shire's Great Food Fight, benefiting Philabundance.
Penncrest led Delaware County schools, and Lower Merion High School led Montgomery County schools, in contributing to a 21-school effort that gained Philabundance 71 tons of food, organizers of announced Thursday.
Schools collected cans from Feb. 15 through March 2; the event was organized by Shire Pharmaceuticals and Philabundance. Collections exceeded last year's 64 tons.
Penncrest and Lower Merion each will receive a $1,000 prize for leading their counties (with 7.5 and 5.3 tons, respectively). The $10,000 grand prize went to Owen J. Roberts in Pottstown, for collecting 11.4 tons.

Other local high schools participating were Harriton, Marple Newtown, Conestoga and Germantown.
