Man Found Dead In Drainage Tunnel After Police Pursuit In Moon

A man's attempt to flee from police apparently had fatal consequences.

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA — Allegheny County police are investigating the death of a man who was fleeing from Moon police early Wednesday and apparently suffered a fatal fall.

Moon police responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 100 block of Fern Hollow Road. When officers arrived, the victim's ex-boyfriend no longer was at the residence but officers stayed in the area in case he returned.

The ex-boyfriend did return at around 3:44 a.m. but fled when he saw a police vehicle. Officers searched for his vehicle and found it unoccupied on Randy Lane. Officers searched for the man while an arrest warrant was obtained charging him with harassment.

The man was found dead in a drainage tunnel at about 9:30 p.m. Investigators believe he had fled from his vehicle into a wooded area, then fell from a small cliff before making his way into the tunnel.

The male’s body was taken to the county medical examiner's office, where an official identification and determination of the cause and manner of death will occur.
