Montour Athletic Center Grand Opening Set for This Weekend

The Montour community is invited to the grand opening of the new Montour Athletic Center this weekend.

The $17.14 million facility, which features a 360-degree indoor-arena that seats 1,500, as well as fitness rooms and sports offices, is located on the Clever Road campus of Montour High School. The facility also contains a pool, wrestling/cheerleading room and a golf center, according to Jason Burik, assistant to the superintendent.

Construction on the facility began in December 2011.

The grand opening celebration kicks off at 3 p.m. Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Here's a list of the activities that follow on Saturday and Sunday:

Saturday, May 4:

• 3:30 to 7 p.m.—Athletic activities, including basketball contests, a Zumba class, and use of the golf simulator, track and aerobic equipment.

• 4 p.m.—Varsity black-and-gold swim meet.

• 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.—Outdoor barbecue.

• 6 to 7 p.m.—Open swim.

• 7 p.m.—Student vs. faculty basketball game.

• 8 p.m.—Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Montour High School boys basketball team.

Sunday, May 5:

• 2 p.m.—Talent show, featuring singing and musical performances.

• 5-7 p.m.—Spaghetti dinner, high school cafeteria.
