Patch: What's the most common piece of advice you give to customers?
Jason Shapiro: When designing Christmas light displays, the most common piece of advice I give to customers is **to focus on balance and cohesion**. It's easy to get carried away with the excitement of decorating, but a thoughtfully designed display can make a much bigger impact than just throwing lights everywhere. Here's how you can achieve that: Focus on Key Focal Points: Identify the areas of your property that you want to highlight—such as the roofline, windows, doors, or trees. These spots should get the most attention and light. Don't Overdo It: Sometimes, less is more. It's tempting to go all out with lights everywhere, but sometimes a more understated display with thoughtful placement can be just as impressive as a massive one. Focus on quality over quantity to create a more elegant and sophisticated look. By keeping these tips in mind, the design process becomes a creative and enjoyable experience that results in a beautiful, cohesive, and eye-catching light display.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Jason Shapiro: Most customers get the lights installed for their husband, wife, father, mother, son, daughter, or grandchildren. They then tell me how special the moment is when lights that person saw the lights. They were breathe taken. The lights always come out more beautifully than they imagined. As an owner of a Christmas light installation company, I am most satisfied when that sense of wonder and warmth is evoked by the customer. The way the lights transform a space—whether it's a neighborhood street, a house, or a tree—can create a magical atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and celebratory. There's something about the intricate designs, the twinkling lights, and the contrast against the winter night sky that brings joy and comfort. A Decorated House can feel like a shared experience of joy. The contrast of bright lights against the darkness of winter, coupled with the festive energy it brings, is something that touches on feelings of tradition, community, and peace.
