Fire Rips Through Vacant House On Newtown-Lower Makefield Border

Firefighters from four companies battled the blaze on Wednesday night along Route 532.

LOWER MAKEFIELD, PA — Firefighters from multiple companies battled a blaze that broke out Wednesday night at an abandoned house on Route 532 between Gaucks Lane and Stoopville Road in Lower Makefield.

Newtown firefighters were the first to arrive at the scene just after 7 p.m. and reported a fully involved building fire. They immediately began battling back the flames with hand lines.

They were soon joined by firefighters from Yardley-Makefield, Upper Makefield and Northampton Township, who attacked the fire with handlines in front and back of the building.

Police from Newtown Township and Lower Makefield were also on the scene, handling traffic control on Route 532, which was shut down for several hours.

Crews remained on the scene until about 10 p.m., hitting hot spots and conducting mop-up operations.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
