Newtown Holiday Parade Canceled Due To Coronavirus
The Newtown Business Association's 10th annual holiday parade will not happen this year.
NEWTOWN, PA—A popular holiday event will not take place this year thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. The organizer of the event, the Newtown Business Association, announced the cancellation of the 10th annual holiday parade earlier this week.
"We are sorry to inform you that, due to the current social distancing parameters, we’ve decided to cancel the Newtown Business Association’s annual holiday parade, originally scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020," the association said in an email.
For almost the last decade, the parade has attracted thousands of people who've lined the streets to enjoy the horse drawn carriages, floats, antique cars, color guard, fire truck with Santa and much more.

Last year, approximately 5,000 people took part in last year's parade. Although this year's parade has been canceled, organizers hope to bring it back next year.
"Please understand this decision was not made lightly, as many participants and spectators greatly look forward to this festive event. However, large public gatherings during the current Covid-19 environment would just be unsafe for our community," the Newtown Business Association said.
