NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents between July 23 and July 29, 2021.

July 23

Around 5:40 p.m., three people entered the Ulta Beauty store in the Village at Newtown Shopping Center and stole more than $8,000 worth of merchandise. The men are believed to be associated with several Ulta Beauty thefts in the area. More information can be found here.

July 24

Around 1:35 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a silver Lexus for a vehicle code violation on the Newtown Bypass near Woodbourne Road. Upon contact with the driver, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The driver was unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results

July 25

Around 2:45 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a silver Honda for a vehicle code violation on the Newtown Bypass near Woodbourne Road. Upon contact with the driver, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The driver was unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results

July 27

Around 5 p.m., police were called to Ulta Beauty for a retail theft involving a man and woman. The total value of property loss was around $125. The investigation is ongoing.

July 28

The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail on Fox Hill and Durham Road in Newtown Township. Eight trucks were stopped and inspected and three citations were issued for violations.

At 10:40 a.m., police were called to a report of a vehicle crashing into a house on North Sycamore Street. There was property damage to the garage. The driver was unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

Around 11:30 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a black BMW X1 for a vehicle code violation on Washington Crossing Road at Lakeview Drive. Upon contact with the driver, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The driver was unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

July 29

Around 4:15 p.m., police were called to Univest Bank on Swamp Road for a fraud in progress. Upon arrival, police located the man and chased him on foot. The man was apprehended and taken into custody without incident. He was identified and charged with forgery, access device fraud and false reports to authorities. He was processed at Northampton Township Police Department and arraigned by Judge Petrucci. Bail was set at $200,000.

Shortly before 10 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a silver Hyundai for a vehicle code violation on Washington Crossing Road at Pickering Drive. Suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were discovered and seized as evidence. Charges are pending evidence results.
