The Market plans to make access to delicious local food for all an even higher priority this year.

"We will be accepting SNAP EBT benefits in order to help those eligible in our community to access an increase in local food," Market Manager Cheryl Gilmore said. "Thanks to the generosity of our parent organization, the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance, we will be offering a $2 match for every $5 spent through SNAP."

What's more, the Penn State Master Gardeners have moved their headquarters to Middletown Grange and plan to table at the market most weekends, sharing their knowledge about plants, gardening, and agriculture.

This season boasts other special treats, too, including “Taste of the Season” monthly cooking demos highlighting seasonal products from local growers and producers. The Market Committee will host several local chefs, such as celebrity Chef Christina Pirello on Aug. 9 and Chef Luke Smithson of Jamie Hollander Catering on July 2.

Children's activities will abound, too: a live pop-up Monarch Butterfly tent is scheduled for July 2, where kids can get up close and personal with the butterflies during feeding time. Plans are in the works for other crafty days and family fun throughout the season, too.

And don't think they forgot about the tasting days! Market enthusiasts should look out for the annual Tomato Tasting Day in August and the much-loved annual Pie Tasting Contest in early October.

The market remains at the Middletown Grange Fairgrounds on 576 Penns Park Road in Newtown all Saturdays this summer and fall except Aug. 20, when it will close for the Middletown Grange Fair.
