Woman Injured in Freeport Road Crash in Marshall

A one car crash that sent the driver to the hospital shut down Freeport Road near the Franklin Road intersection in Marshall Township at the border with Cranberry and Pine townships for about an hour Tuesday.

Marshall Assistant Fire Chief Phil MacMillan said Northern Regional Police, Marshall and Wexford firefighters were called to the area at about 2:45 p.m. after the driver called 911 to report she had crashed her car near the cemetery on Mt. Pleasant Road.

When first responders arrived in the area, they initially could not find the car, MacMillan said.

About 30 minutes later, they discovered the overturned car in the woods off Freeport Road, about a half-mile from the original crash site.

MacMillan said the driver, who he believes is from Cranberry, hit a tree after the car left the road. 

The crash also knocked over a pine tree, which covered the car, making it difficult for emergency responders to see it from the road. MacMillan did not know what caused the driver, whose name has not been released, to lose control of the car.  

MacMillan said firefighters were able to pop open the back door of the vehicle and assist the woman, who was conscious, from the overturned car. He did not know the extent of the woman’s injuries.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, MacMillan said.  The car was towed from the roadway.

Freeport Road reopened to traffic around 4 p.m.
