Volunteers Needed to Plant Western PA Conservancy Community Gardens

While driving in the region, have you noticed the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s community gardens?

These gardens, including the ones in the northern Pittsburgh suburbs that are planted by volunteers each spring, have helped beautify the region.

According to the conservancy's website, corporate and organizational sponsorships and the work of more than 13,000 volunteers from neighborhoods, schools, businesses and organizations have made it possible for communities in 20 counties to enjoy 135 gardens.

Volunteers are needed to help with this spring's community flower garden planting.

Planting dates for gardens in the North Hills area are listed below. All events begin at 9 a.m. unless otherwise noted:

Ross Township

• McIntyre Road and McKnight Road—May 17

Etna

• Route 8 and Kittanning Street—May 18

Indiana Township

• Route 910 and Saxonburg Road—(No time or date given. Contact the conservancy for information.)

Shaler

• 1810 Mt Royal Blvd., Shaler Intermediate School—May 9
