New Crime Prevention Officer Greets West View Crime Watch

Officer Matt Pavlecic will not only be involved with the neighborhood program, but he will also become a face more familiar around West View Elementary School.

Members of the West View Crime Watch program welcomed Officer Matt Pavlecic Monday as the new crime prevention officer for the .

Pavlecic has taken over the coordination duties of the program from Lt. Matt Holland, who was promoted last week. 

"There's a lot of change going on throughout the borough," said West View Police Chief and Manager/Secretary Bruce Fromlak. He introduced Pavlecic to the two dozen residents who attended the crime watch meeting at the .

Fromlak said Pavlecic will not only be involved with the neighborhood program, but he will also become a face more familiar around . 

"With a younger officer, children seem to be able to relate better," Fromlak said.

Pavlecic, 28, will celebrate his one-year anniversary as a full-time officer with the department next week. He spent three years working part-time for the department before being hired for a full-time position. 

A West Deer native, he graduated from St. Joesph High School in Tarentum and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He began his career in law enforcement at age 22 and has worked for Rankin Borough, Ohio Township and Sewickley Heights. 

Pavlecic said he plans to be more active in the schools and hopes to bring more parents into the crime watch program.

"In a small commuity like this, we should know everybody," he said. 

Monday's crime watch program featured a presentation on the services by paramedic Jennifer Swab. 

The next crime watch is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 9, also at the Banquet Hall. 

The following summary of February incidents was provided: 

Feb. 1 

Police responded to a report of a runaway juvenile who later returned home. 

Feb. 2 

Police particpated in a speed enforcement detail in the 1400 block of Center Avenue. 

Feb. 3 

Police responded to a report that a woman selling candy in the West View Towers/Senior Citizen High-rise stole $50 from a purse.

Feb. 4 

A man was arrested after a traffic stop for an active warrant. 

Feb. 5 

Police cited four juveniles for underage drinking on Park Avenue. 

Police cited one juvenile for underage drinking on Lakewood Avenue.

A man was arrested for public drunkenness in front of Howard's Tavern.

Police arrested a driver of a vehicle for DUI in the 600 block of Center Avenue.

Feb. 6 

Police responded to a report of the theft of a BB gun at K-mart and made an arrest. 

Police responded to a report of a trespass at K-mart and made an arrest.

Feb. 7

Police took a report of a suspicious male in a silver Chrysler Sebring in tthe 300 block of Center Avenue.

Feb. 8 

Police took a report of a man looking into a house window in the 300 block of Columbia Avenue.

Feb. 9

Police took a report of the theft of a purse at K-mart with $40 in it. 

Police responded to a report of a fight at Drinks' Bar and made an arrest.

A large amount of marijuana and paraphernalia was seized by police at a residence. 

Feb. 12

A window was reportedly broken overnight at Reflections Cafe. 

Police arrested a man after a traffic stop for possessing prescription medication.

Feb. 14

Police arrested two men for fighting in the 400 block of Perry Highway

Feb. 18

Police arrested a man for making a false report of a fight at Drinks' Bar. 

An iPod as reported stolen and later recovered by police. 

The theft of $30 shoes at K-mart was reported and a woman arrested by police. 

Feb. 19

A burglary of a residence was reported on Yale Avenue.

Feb. 20

A man was arrested for DUI after a traffic stop.

Feb. 21

Two men were arrested and charged for several local burglaries. 

Feb. 22

A person reportedly stole meat at Giant Eagle and was caught and arrested after fleeing the scene.

A woman was cited for hanging on a street lamp in the 400 block of Perry Highway.

Feb. 23

A woman was cited for harrassing her neighbor by continuously calling her. 

A man was arrested for DUI following an accident. 

Two people were cited for criminal mischief to a house. 

Feb. 24

A man was arrested for DUI after a traffic stop. 

Feb. 25

An intoxicated man who came to help a friend in an accident was arrested. 

A man was arrested for DUI after a traffic stop. 

A driver was cited for possession of prescription medication after a traffic stop.

Feb. 26

A woman was arrested for walking on the street while intoxicated and possession of narcotics. 

Feb. 29

An air compressor was reported stolen from the rear of a house in the 100 block of Montclair Avenue.
