Still Standing: Arnold's Market Likely the Oldest Small Business in West View
Can you think of any other West View business that's been around since 1943?
When Jesse Sprague's grandfather opened Arnold's Market at 1498 Center Avenue in West View, Franklin Roosevelt was President and the country was in the midst of World War II.
A lot has happened in those 70 years since, but Arnold's market is still standing.
Sprague, now manager of Arnold's, believes the small grocery store is now the oldest small business in West View.

"We're trying to figure it out," he said. "We're 1943, same family, same spot, same same business. I think we're it."
Sprague credits a loyal customer base for the store's longevity, and thinks they will be key to keeping the business viable during a year-long closure of the nearby Levi Duff Bridge , which has cut off traffic coming up Center Avenue from Bellevue.

"It's hard to say how much business we get from that side," he said. "One good thing, the workers already came in here and got hoagies, so it might actually help at lunch. Thank god we have our loyal clientele from the neighborhood."
