Update: Driver Arrested Following One-Car Crash in Lower Frederick

Schwenksville woman suspected of DUI of a controlled substance

Schwenksville resident Phyllys Callery, of Riverside Avenue, was arrested on suspicion of DUI of a controlled substance after and hitting a fence and flipping her car in a one-vehicle crash in Lower Frederick, Wednesday afternoon, May 2.

Callery was driving eastbound in the 100 block of Zieglerville Road, and a witness reported her Toyota Corolla was traveling at a high rate of speed. When Callery approached a sharp left curve in the road, the car drove off the road, hitting a resident's fence and going up part of a tree trunk before the vehicle flipped, coming to rest on its roof, said Chief Paul Maxey.

Callery was conscious at the scene, and before rescue crews arrived an unidentified bystander helped her out of the overturned vehicle, said Maxey. However, when police arrived at the scene, Maxey said Callery had re-entered the car and was allegedly attempting to hide suspected drug paraphernalia.

evaluated Callery at the scene, but she was not injured, Maxey said. After leaving the ambulance, Callery briefly spoke to Maxey before he handcuffed her.

Maxey said hyperdermic needles were in the car, one of which was filled with a substance -- suspected to be heroin.

Callery was transported to Pottstown Hospital, where she consented to have blood drawn for testing. Formal charges will be filed pending the results of the blood test.

No other people were involved in the crash.

Early reports indicate the car failed to negotiate a curve in the 100 block of Zieglerville Road. Callery was conscious at the scene exited the vehicle before rescue crews arrived, but it is unclear at this time whether she was helped or extricated herself from the overturned car.
