Fallen Fire Chief Remembered By Montco Department Five Years Later

Former Perkiomen Township Fire Chief John Moran, Sr. died at 71 years of age back on Aug. 29, 2017. He is remembered fondly.

PERKIOMEN VALLEY, PA — Local volunteer firefighters in this central Montgomery County region are remembering a former fire chief who passed away five years ago Monday.

John T. Moran, Sr., a former chief at the Perkiomen Township Fire Company who served in that capacity for 20 years, and spent more than five decades with the agency, died on Aug. 29, 2017, after suffering from a possible cardiac episode, according to a past story in The Times Herald.

Patch had also reported on Moran's death, noting that the former chief was a "beloved public servant."

On Monday, volunteers with the fire company along with members of Moran's family traveled to the Montgomery County Fire Academy in Conshohocken to pay respects to the fallen local hero.

"His name is now etched into the memorial alongside others who have answered the last alarm in Montgomery County," the Perkiomen Township Fire Company posted to Facebook. "The lights at our fire house are red tonight in honor of John Moral, Sr."

Moran had served with the fire company for 53 years, with 20 of those years spent as its chief. He also worked as Perkiomen Township's fire marshal for about 15 years, according to The Times Herald story.

In addition to his role in the fire services, Moran had also worked for Perkiomen Township as both a laborer and road master, according to his obituary.

He was also a veteran of the United States Army who served in the Vietnam War.
