Lower Frederick, Pennsylvania State Police Collecting Old, Unused Medication

National Drug Take-Back Day is Saturday, April 28, and Perkiomen Valley residents again have two local options for getting rid of prescription medication. 

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., both the and will be collecting "expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications," according to an October press release from Lower Frederick Township Police. This effort is done in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency.

The initiative aims to prevent prescription drug abuse as well as improper drug disposal (i.e. flushing medicine or pouring it down the drain and getting it into public water supply).

Participants can remain anonymous. Police will not ask any questions when the drugs are dropped off, and no one is required to sumbit personal information.

Other guidelines for the program include:
• Remove personal information from drug bottles or packages, and place bottles and/or packages in the disposal box
• Liquid products and creams in containers will be accepted
• Sharpies and syringes will not be accepted due to the potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens
• Participants must handle their medications during the surrender process. Law enforcement personnel will not handle the medications at any time.

The Lower Frederick collection will be held at the township building. The Pennsylvania State Police collection will be held at the Skippack barracks (see map for both locations).
