Perkiomen Twp Gets $277K To Improve Busy Route 29 Intersection

The significant grant will fund a permanent traffic signal at a busy Route 29 intersection.

PERKIOMEN TOWNSHIP, PA — A significant grant has been secured to add a permanent traffic signal to a busy intersection on Route 29.

The $277,410 grant will fund a new signal at the intersection of 29, Bridge Street, and Graterford Road, State Rep. Joe Ciresi's office announced this week.

"After the placement of a temporary signal along Route 29 for another PennDOT project, I joined local residents in requesting a permanent signal to improve public safety," Ciresi said in a statement.

He added that the grant helps offset a "sizable" tax on the local community that would've otherwise been required to fund the project.

“This grant will provide the township the means to improve the intersection of Gravel Pike, Bridge Street and Graterford Road and provide safer access for the public through this area," Perkiomen Township manager Cecile Daniel added in a statement.

The intersection is important to several locals institutions, including SCI Phoenix and Perkiomen Valley School District, as well as residential areas.

More than $13.1 million in intersection funding was disbursed to 34 municipalities around the state this week. Funding is supplied from red light violations at 31 selected intersections in Philadelphia.
