PERKIOMEN TOWNSHIP, PA — The trial for a Perkiomen Township man who police said shot and killed his mother and brother last year began this week in Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas.

Aaron Deshong, 50, pleaded not guilty in March to both counts of first degree murder.

The incident occurred back on Sept. 24, 2023 at around 5 p.m. at his Perkiomen home on the 700 block of Gravel Pike.

Deshong shot his Wanda Deshong, 74, in the head, and his brother, Adam Deshong, 53, of Devon, multiple times, the autopsy report states. A total of four shots were fired from a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver.

Deshong placed a call to the FBI Threat Assessment Center in the afternoon shortly after the killings and "indicated he may have hurt his family," the DA's Office said.

Prosecutors said during opening statements that Deshong had 13 years of "pent-up anger" at his mother leading up to the killings, according to KYW and the Inquirer.

Further circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear, though the trial's proceedings are expected to go into Deshong's potential motivations in far greater detail.
